If Only the Rod Had Been Round

Bridget Harris Volden experienced cruel beatings in an Indigenous Residential School (IRS) in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Discovering Jesus' love helped her give up drinking, healed her marriage, and helped her give back to her community. Bridget helped form The American Indian Bible Fellowship in downtown Minneapolis, MN in the 1960's and was their director for ten years.

Bridget's story contains all the excitement of a novel, but is her true story. It includes her father's delightful Irish humor, the rich culture and history of her mother's Dene' people, and her own courage and stamina in the face of extreme difficulties.

Bridget's desire is to bring hope and healing to others who suffer abuse and the devastating effects of alcohol and drug addictions. Her book is an encouragement to become all that you are meant to be in Jesus who has the power to restore broken lives.

In 2008 Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, issued an apology to indigenous people for abuses suffered in the residential schools of Canada. The full text of his speech and response from National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Phil Fontaine, are in the appendix of the book.
