Kenyan needs:

These are the needs communicated to us this year. With 100,000 people in chief David's district, and 10% having AIDS, there are some very desperate needs.

1) Bibles

There is a need for Bibles. We subsidize the Bible purchases so they can afford their own Bibles. 200 Kisii Bibles @ $10/ea
200 Swahili Bibles @ $5/ea

2) Community Health Clinic

A community health clinic for Sengara and other rural communities. For $1,500 a person can be put through a nursing program in Kisii. This would be paid back over the 3 years following the program. $1,500.00 - fund nursing student

3) Fund 2 schools

We have an opportunity to make use of a building donated for a school. The brick building is a nice structure.

Mary already runs an excellent school with 70 students. Her worst students fare better on standard tests than the public school star students.
Currently Mary is running the school at a deficit of $475/year. Hiring Mary to run 2 schools with 140 students would cost approximately:
  • $950/yr subsidy for students
  • $1,100/yr salary & travel for Mary to run both schools
  • $500 for some necessary equipment.

4) Vehicle for Sengara Church

Kennedy and the other church leaders have requested a motorcycle, but have been told by Neil it is too dangerous. Motorcycles have become the rage in the past year. Motorcycle taxies line the street in Sengara, cycles go back and forth on the road in front of the church all day long.

5) Food Shelf

Fund food shelf to provide food for starving families $500/month

6) Reading Glasses

Replenish kit for making reading glasses with strengths of from 1.25 to 1.75. We need to contact the company supplying the kits to find out the current cost.

7) Well for Sengara

Women need to carry all water 1/2 mile to Sengara each day on their heads in 6 gallon containers. It is difficult and time consuming. Yet these women managed to smile as they stopped to pose for the picture.

$20,000

Grant application in process

8) Keyboards

None of the churches have keyboards for their worship. Keyboards would be a wonderful addition. $500/each

9) Mattresses and beds for orphans

Many of the orphans share beds and some sleep on the floor. We will find out the cost if you are interested in this need.
