| "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." | Dear ROCK Supporters, You are holding our second annual ROCK newsletter! As our ministry in Kenya grows, we want you to be aware of the impact you—as supporters—are having on the tribe of people known as the Kisii in Kenya, Africa. The above words, spoken by Jesus, remind us of the im-portance of reaching out to those in need with the tangible love of God. We are both challenged and humbled in the reali-zation that our extension of God's love goes full circle because the outreach ministers to Jesus himself. Financial Needs Update ROCK began in July of 2004 with financial support for two orphans living in the homes of local caretakers. Since that time, over $91,000 has been funneled into the Kisii econ-omy. Monthly sponsorship support is now provided for 82 orphans, plus general funds have been given for many other needs that ultimately benefit the children of Kenya. As of April 1, 2011, general donations have contributed to: |
| - the purchase of four bicycles for pastors, - provisions for a food shelf for the desperately needy, - numerous blankets, mattresses and mosquito nets, - medical assistance for caretakers and orphans, - the purchase and distribution of 300 Bibles, - and, most recently, a milk cow. |

Money for a milk cow is the first step in fulfilling the often-heard request of many families in Kisii-land. The initial cow is in the care of a selected family who will de-velop husbandry skills as they feed and milk the cow. At the appropriate time, the cow will be bred with the understanding that the calf will be placed in another fam-ily's care. Eventually, there will be many families with a cow, and milk will be more readily available. |
This Year's Team A team representing ROCK and Outfitters for Adventure travels to Kenya annually, usually in March. This year, siblings Neil Thielke and Beth Savela comprised the team. It was Neil's eighth trip to the area and Beth's first. As they visited the local congregations, shared meals in various homes, and lived with the Magara family, they had oppor-tunities to audit funds that have been given and observe the con-tinuing spiritual and physical needs. |

![]() What Must I Do To Be Saved? Sharing the gospel is a key component when the teams travel to Kenya, and Neil has a practice of offering the opportu-nity for salvation at the close of each message. However, on one occasion, he closed his message by asking if there was anyone who wanted prayer for healing. Tho-mas was third in line and when asked what he wanted prayer for, he responded by saying that he wanted to be saved… and that he felt a call to preach! Neil explained to Thomas the gift of salvation that is provided to anyone who will believe and offered through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. |
Realizing his need for re-pentance and trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ, Thomas prayed and received salvation that instant. He will be under the leadership and training of the local pastors in the Kisii area as he grows in his relationship with his Savior. "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord,‟ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justi-fied, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10. (NIV) We praise God for the salvation of many during this trip to Kisii, Kenya! "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:35-36, 40. (NIV) |
The Gospel - Good News! God's gift of salvation is ultimate in the lives of all, regardless of nationality or material prosperity. Our eternity hinges on it. Yet, we again remember that the gospel reaches into every other aspect of life as well. Sharing the good news involves feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick, and more. We are accountable to the One Who gives us eternal life for the stewardship of everything he has given us. Aware of this specific truth, we are thankful for your generosity as we join together to share extended facets of the gospel with our Kenyan brothers and sisters. In addition to our gratitude, we ask that you consider the facts that there are many more children waiting for sponsorship and that there are many more basic necessities for the Kenyan people that we have the ability to fulfill. We invite you to prayerfully consider increasing your support, either by sponsorship of an additional child or through a one-time general donation gift. As funds are provided, our hope is to expand areas of assistance to include a community health clinic, school support and possibly a vehicle that could be shared by the pastors and those that transport AIDS patients to the clinic for healthcare.
